About Angelica & You Brew Kombucha
A home brewer — not a guru — who went through the trial and error so you don't have to, and wrote all of it down.
The story
Why homemade? Because store-bought kombucha is pricey, the flavor selection is limited, and you can make a more probiotic-rich, more delicious version yourself — customized exactly to your taste — for around 50 cents a bottle.
When Angelica started brewing, she couldn't find a single source of understandable, science-based, genuinely in-depth kombucha information that wasn't trying to sell her a kit or scare her into buying products. There were sources — but none that gave all the details and context you actually need to succeed.
So she built it. She scoured books, sites and videos, talked to home brewers and commercial brewers, and tested method after method in her own kitchen. She and her husband Ryan started the YouTube channel to show exactly what her variables were — the vessel, the tea, the temperature, the timing — so you could see what success looks like and adapt it to your own home. That channel grew to over 133,000 subscribers and nearly a hundred videos, and this site is its written companion — the most comprehensive resource for kombucha homebrewers who want to do it all themselves.
In kombucha and in a lot of other aspects of life, Ange likes to challenge herself to make and create things on her own. If you can figure out a way to make it better (and oftentimes cheaper) yourself — why buy it when you can make it? Why rely on someone else when you can master it yourself? You can brew kombucha. She believes in you!
The philosophy
YBK's Home Brewing Philosophy · Watch on YouTube
- There's no single right way. Kombucha has many variables; what works for someone else's kitchen might not work in yours. Advice here comes with its reasoning, so you can adapt instead of memorize.
- Detail is respect. The process is simple once you get the hang of it — but pretending it's simpler than it is just leaves brewers stranded when real questions come up. You deserve the why, not just the what.
- It's a living thing. Your brew will change with the seasons, your SCOBY, your ingredients. It won't be factory-consistent — that's the beauty of a real, raw product no one else can replicate.
- Take notes, have fun. Treat it like a friendly science experiment. Nothing accelerates learning like a well-scribbled brew log.
- No ads, no fear-mongering, nothing to sell. Kombucha isn't a miracle cure and this site won't pretend otherwise. It's a delicious, rewarding hobby — that's plenty.

The legal blah blah
